Red Line Roots Presents: Joshua Black Wilkins, Sarah Borrello and Brian Carroll at Atwoods

There’s a lot of reasons I am excited to be curating this show…for one, I got to pick the folks that I wanted to play with (which isn’t always the case). Another being, even if I wasn’t playing, I would be at this show because of the talent that is going to be displayed this night.

Joshua Black Wilkins –Joshua+Black+Wilkins++The+Forty+Volts+Joshua+Black The first time I came across Josh was when I was looking for a new archtop. He had a video about his, and I subsequently bought that guitar. The man’s a salesman without even trying and the thing he is selling are his stories. He is a songwriter’s songwriter if there ever was one. Telling stories rather than simply rhyming words. A hell of a musician, a gruff and charactered voice that you would expect from a singer-songwriter who has seen some things in his day. He has that presence and aura about him that makes you know “that dude is a musician, and he writes incredible songs”. I’m not sure what that really is or how you go about embodying it, but when you have it, its just there. He has that presence on stage that leaves an imprint on the listeners long after his guitar is unplugged and the lights go up at the bar. And that’s sometSarahBorrelloPic3hing to witness first hand.

Sarah Borrello – One of my favorite gigs I ever played was Sarah and I swapping songs back and forth, playing old blues numbers, and not really giving a sh*t about anything except the music. She is an absolute powerhouse. Her performances and her music is intense, its passionate, this girl manages to maintain being a complete and total badass, but is totally grounded and a total sweetheart. Seeing her with a band is one thing, but being able to catch her perform stripped down and solo is a totally different beast. Sarah shines all on her own and watching her perform solo is raw, intimate, but still completely fierce and soulful.

I am always in awe at the talent that people allow me to share a stage with. This night is no different, and I strongly encourage you to come check this night of fantastic music out. Joshua only gets up north every once in a while and Sarah only plays solo every so often. So you are truly getting a night of inspiring performances that will likely only happen this once. Its going to be a doozy,  I can promise you that.

See you at Atwoods tomorrow (2/25) night!
