3 Things I Learned this Week Friday Feature

This is a new feature. Every Friday I am going to share 3 things that I learned from the week (likely relating to music, but perhaps relating to other things as well…let’s leave that open for now). Regardless, there are either things that I learned about and think you all should know about as well, mistakes I may have made

1)      Andrew Combs, chalk him up as another one of my favorite new songwriters. Joe Fletcher has managed to introduce me to quite a few amazing folks by association over the past year. Combs has one of those voices that just hits you like a freight train, but ever so softly. Its heavy, heavy heavy in its effect but gentle and easy in the delivery. Give that man a listen, immediately. http://andrewcombs.net/

2)      I can be a contradictory ass. My wife made me realize this. My “last rant” post yesterday perhaps deserved a different name given the nature of what I was trying to bring across. The main idea was that ALL MUSIC CAN HAVE A PLACE IN THE WORLD. I may not agree with it as particularly moving or deep seeded emotion driving art, but it can be fun and still serve a good and useful purpose. Apologies for anyone who is confused by my juxstaposed and jumbled mind at times.

3)      The Campfire Festival looks like it’s going to be my August thing going forward if it keeps on keepin’ on over the next few years. It has all the goodness that I appreciate and love about Newport but with camping. I mean, I guess we cannot all camp out in Fort Adams, right? But it seems to be a bit more of an affordable option when it comes to lodging (I drove back and forth from Newport to Boston this year…and I’d do it again and again). I am very interested to see how this festival pans out given the incredible line up and many friends that are a part of it.

Til next Friday, that’s 3 things I learned this week…
