Red Line Roots Summer Celebration Artist Announcement: Ian Fitzgerald, Krista Baroni, John Faraone

11116591_825738184129150_1655652031456419397_nIt is an honor and a privilege when you have one friend that writes great songs, its another level when you have 3 friends that write great songs and they all agree to play an in the round set for the Red Line Roots Summer Celebration at Passim on June 13th.

Ian Fitzgerald sent me an e-mail just about 2 years ago. My response to that e-mail was: “Sorry this took me so long…I honestly found it hard to put words to describe a record that puts words to a melody to describe life so well. You have undoubtedly become one of my favorite songwriters. Really love this stuff and can’t wait to see what is next to come.” Ian still remains one of my favorite songwriters, but I am lucky enough to count him as a dear friend and collaborator now as well. His wit, his humor, and most of all, those damn beautifully crafted songs make him a musician that you need to know.

There is a family surrounding a studio off in the woods, high on a mountain, or wherever Eric Lichter ends up. Krista Baroni‘s music truly came to me through that, though I initially met her before, this is where I was lost, enthralled, and fell in love with the songs that she crafted. It’s once Krista starts singing that your head spins around on its axis and you listen. Baroni has one of the most powerful, unique, and gorgeous voices in folk music today, or ever for that matter. Couple that with the poetric verses she sings over an expertly finger picked guitar and you too will be lost folks.

I first met John Faraone on stage at Club Passim during campfire. We played an in the round set, so it seemed fitting to bring him back. I believe he exclaimed it was one of his first gigs/had only been writing tunes and performing for a short while, but the dude’s presence and poise on stage was that of a seasoned veteran in songwriter. John is very quickly become one of the most talented and promising songwriters out of Providence and with good reason. His latest EP “Houses” was a beautiful, worn collection of songs…”Unassuming, calming, but still very touching in his delivery of his words.” You will dig this guy, I can promise you that.
