Lord, Have Mercy: Video from Petunia and the Vipers “Mercy”

I am a big fan of bands that have a certain timeless vibe. The two step beat and speakeasy vibe and swaying movement of “Mercy” from Canadian band Petunia and the Vipers hits just that right balance for me.

The warble in lead singer, Petunia’s voice is infectious. It reminds me of a Boston based artist named Matt Chieffo who I always took a shine to. A sort of “everything is not right, right now…but somehow it still is”. Cautionary and a bit craze-eyed, but I tell you after listening on in for a spell I am buying whatever snake oil they are selling.

The video that goes along with the tune is also a real treat. Beautifully shot and a storied visual “Based on the dancing plague of 1518, hundreds of people become seized by an involuntary hysterical reaction to dance. Whether a curse from St. Vitus, malnutrition, or a case of mass hysteria, the dancing plague remains unexplained.”

I look forward to digging deeper in the music of this band…but for now, check out the video for yourself.
