Show You Should Know: Billy Wylder and Honeysuckle at Lizard Lounge 6/16

This week marks a big milestone for one of our favorite Cambridge venues. The Lizard Lounge turns 20 years young and celebrates with a killer week of music including of a show we really feel as though you need to know.

Billy Wylder is a global conscious outfit singing songs with an occasionally political edge and rock n’ roll vibe that gets you dancing and moving. Leader singer and guitarist Avi Salloway just has a way about him. I knew this gent was special from the first moment I saw him lift his black stratocaster behind his head and rip a killer guitar solo. The band is a collection of some of the finest that the Boston area has to offer with Rob Flax on fiddle, Fred Kosak on mando and guitar, Cilla Bonnie on the bass, and Michael Reese on drums. The band is as charismatic and engaging as a band comes and seeing them live is an experience to behold.

Honeysuckle quickly dug their way into my heart. Singer-Guitarist Holly McGarry has one of the most impressive and warm voices in modern music in my humble opinion and the vocal harmonies that the band weaves into their songs is absolutely gorgeous. Steady percussion via Benjamin Burns’ well timed foot, ripping mandolin solos through a series of chain effects, and a melding of the new and the old that just plain works.

The two bands manage to take sounds and genres and moments in time and blend them in a miraculous and beautiful fashion. With Wylder taking their worldly influences through vast travels across the globe with traditional roots and rock and Honeysuckle taking the musical influences of deep American roots and blending them with contemporary storytelling that is introspective and meaningful.

Get on down to the Lizard TOMORROW night and get your pre-sale tickets ahead of time RIGHT HERE. Honeysuckle starts the night off at 9 PM sharp. Get there early, stay there late and celebrate!
