Ryan Adams has continuously proven himself as one of the most prolific songwriters and artists of the past 20 years. From the imprint that Whiskeytown’s “Stranger’s Almanac” and Adams’ “Heartbreaker” left on young songwriters to 2010’s limited release “sci-fi metal concept album” Orion and even his tribute to Taylor Swift’s 1989 (which turned out pretty damn fantastic), he is constantly challenging and adapting himself, his sonic delivery and his songs.
The songwriter just released a new single from the upcoming release “Prisoner” slated for release in mid-February. “Do You Still Love Me?” certainly has some sort of 80s throwback vibe, with its ringing bar chord pattern and harmony chorus line, the fall out between hard riffing, pounding drums and the silence of just a throbbing organ. Sonically is envelopes a bit of what the tracks “Gimme Something Good” and “Trouble” did from his self titled 2014 release. But if this is any indication of whats to come, I think we are all in for a treat early ’17.
