“Show You Should Know”: Connor Garvey – Club Passim Thursday, March 2

Connor Garvey, a songwriter from Portland, Maine, who has had success across the country in the folk music scene, is playing at Passim on Thursday; if you like well-crafted songs, you should be there too.

I heard Connor play a couple of years ago on his tour up and down the east coast with Max Garcia Conover, and what struck me at the time was how at ease Garvey is as a performer. He sets a great tone, and that, to me, makes all the difference in being able to focus on the music. His songs remind me a lot of Josh Ritter’s – they tell a good story, are concise and economical, and while they can be serious and contemplative, they’re never despairing. On top of the lyrical quality, he’s a really talented and precise guitar player. Connor will be joined by Eric McDonald on mandolin and backing vocals. He has a bunch of new songs from his forthcoming album that he’ll be debuting too, so folks already familiar with Connor’s catalogue will hear the latest work.
Here are a couple of videos to give you a sense of what you can expect on Thursday, and tickets are here.
