Despite how dire the world looks these days there has been a beacon of light that I have seen amongst the music community, and that has been pulling together to support what they believe in. Be it artists donating all of their sales for a month or compilations put together for the ACLU or a Lady Hang for Planned Parenthood, people have been using their art as a voice and support system for the things that matter most to them. This Thursday evening is no different, as some of Boston’s brightest young folky talent descends on The Burren in Somerville alongside BBC comedian Ben Ashenden to raise money for pediatric cancer patients at MGH.
“The Boston folk scene has always been supportive and close-knit,” says Isa Burke of Lula Wiles. “But recently, I’ve noticed that musicians are increasingly motivated to lend their talents to causes they believe in. I’m honored to be part of this event along with some of my favorite musicians and dearest friends. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work that Massachusetts General Hospital does, so I’m hugely grateful to Ben for putting this event together and giving our music community a way to contribute to that work.”
Tickets for the show are 20 bucks in advance and 24 at the door. I usually say buy in advance to say a couple of bucks, but in this case if you want to risk not getting in but tossing a few extra bucks to this great cause, then buy at the door…or just buy in advance and toss a few bucks to the raffle that they are hosting. Show starts at 7 PM and that is TOMORROW night.
Here’s a video we shot with the Lula Wiles gals covering Dietrich Strause for the Locals Covering Locals compilation (two of these fantastic artists performing that evening).
