Singled Out: SnugHouse “Irie”

Who: SnugHouse

From: Portland, Maine

Song: “Irie”

Latest Record: ‘Irie’ is a new single from the 4 piece, but a previous self titled 5 track EP can be found on their bandcamp page.

What about it: “Written by Alex Millan and arranged by Nikhil Dasgupta, Irie is a song for a changing world. The lyrics reflect on the time Alex spent nannying a colleague’s daughter. ‘Leaving the city at the crack of dawn each morning cleared my head and shifted my perspective on life,’ says Alex about her experience. ‘I spent my days following the whims of a curious toddler. My insecurities and anxieties about the world quickly became superficial.’  The song rapidly became an audience favorite at shows, and the band is excited to share it with the broader public.”

Sparsity and jubilance dot the track. Going from single vocal, calm to a more upbeat and full on choral sing along. The band swings this track. Creates movement in the space around them as they thing. Feelings of tribute and love emanate out from their collective voice and for a moment as you listen, you just feel good. With tinges around frayed edges of pop, folk, rock and something else that glimmers in the sunlight. SnugHouse makes my heart warm just a little more.
