Peep This: Billy Failing “Watch It Fly”

Billy Failing has been making waves lately as a crucial member of Billy Strings’ band. Lending powerful harmonies and some of the best banjo playing you can catch in the roots music landscape today.

In this video, however, it is Strings that is playing second fiddle…err, banjo…err guitar?…to Failing’s tunes. In a world of music that seems never-ending, you can wade forever through the mist to find something that is equal parts contemporarily exciting and pays fairly fantastic homage to the genre. Billy’s voice, with its high and lonesome breaks and general pleasant tone, feels like it could just as easily be singing along with Billy Monroe or Flatt and Scruggs, but the arrangements take a bit of a turn. The breakdowns and turns keep you guessing a bit and intoxicated with the songs as they play out.

As much as we love him on stage with Billy Strings and the boys, it’s mighty nice to watch Failing shine in his own light here and his voice fly and soar in its own radiance.

“Watch It Fly” is off of Billy’s 2017 release “Call My Trouble By Name”. Go pick it up today.
