Singled Out: Driftwood “Lay Like You Do”

Drums and soft picked guitars. Somewhere between the gentle flow of a David Gray-esque smooth vocal, intertwining banjos and a pop sentiment where the hooks latch themselves into you and leave you with the chorus spinning round your head for hours afterwards. The sound is huge, but so approachable its mesmerizing. Driftwood will get you in the best way possible.

Who: Driftwood

From: Binghamton, NY

Song: “Lay Like You Do”

Latest Record: Tree of Shade (released April 5th)

What About It: “This one was one of those fun songwriter moments where the song came out really quick and I didn’t have time to think too much about what it was. I didn’t fight the initial lyrics/chords at all, although later on I did go back and change the last verse.  It has changed key a few times to find the right spot for the vocals. It’s about being in a relationship that you know is over but can’t leave it right away. It was recorded in a few hours, piece by piece, vocals and guitar first.” -Dan Forsyth
