Singled Out: Pretty Saro “Hindsight”

From: Boston, MA

Song: “Hindsight”

Latest Record: Racing Back to You (out in July)

What About It: “Hindsight” represents so many firsts for us. The song was written in the summer of 2017. At that point I was writing instrumental music, and Hindsight was my first venture into writing songs. For Pretty Saro it was the first original song that we ever performed back in the fall of 2017 at FreshGrass, and eventually became the first single we released from our upcoming record in late May. “Hindsight” means a lot to Pretty Saro. I’ll never forget how excited I felt the first time I heard the four of us singing it together.

The chorus came out of a conversation I had with the head chef at an old job, Luis Cano. We were talking about when he and his family relocated from Colorado to Boston, and how he missed playing music because he left his guitar in Colorado. Right away I pulled out my notebook and wrote the quote down, and as I was working with the seed this character emerged who was in the midst of making a decision: to continue running or return home. Torn between their logical head and their emotional heart they ultimately decide to stop running, turn around, and head back home. This song taught me that it’s not always about some fantastic, often fictional journey that turns us into a brand new person, sometimes we go home. We thrive when we’re surrounded by people who love us. The heart triumphs over the brain, today at least.

Our new record ‘Racing Back to You’ is an exploration of the choices we all have to make when we are weighing the pros and cons of staying and leaving relationships with people, places, and ideas. We wanted to observe the reasons and consequences involved with these choices, and try to observe them through and unbiased lens with the hopes of making ourselves and others more informed when we have to make these decisions ourselves. – Max Anderson
