Sunday at Green River Festival 2021 (Gallery)

My live music experiences for the past year (or ~3 months since things started somewhat opening back up again) have been limited to small gatherings, local farm dinners, distanced outdoor events under giant tents. Heading to a music festival again certainly came with its reservations, but after being within the gates of Green River Fest for a few moments it was clear that the majority of festival goers, vendors and staff alike were doing their best to press forward with cautious optimism. Masks were aplenty. The staff and volunteers, in particular, from those at the gate to the folks carting artists around donning masks and maintaining safe distances.

The new location at the Franklin County Fairgrounds allowing ample space to spread out and what I assume was a lower total headcount in ticket sales allowing for the space needed for folks to feel safe, while still enjoying the music and energy. And perhaps one of the most happy side effects being a few more structures on site allowing for some more ample shade to escape the sun.

While I was only able to make it down Sunday, it still gave me a recharge that I so desperately needed. From pals opening and closing the event, to absolute favorites (of both my wife and I) gracing the mainstage and the hesitancy of seeing old friends and extending a clenched hand for a fist bump or going all in for a hug, Green River provided something that the folks in attendance needed most…the joy and emotion that comes from live music.
