CHECK IT: Nate Taylor Live on WMFO

11911859_10102425847968134_1826468973_nToday we say goodbye to our first month of EBASS/Red Line Roots collaboration for the Songwriter of the Month. Not only did I get the opportunity to feature a new songwriter in August, a songwriter that was also “new to me”, I got to see him perform live at one of EBASS’s events at Gallery 263 in Cambridge.

I am a firm believer that live is the best way to really experience an artist. In recorded form you can overdub, edit, mix, effect, and more to a track. Making it completely different from what you might expect from seeing an artist with just their instrument and their voice. Luckily for us, our August songwriter of the month Nate Taylor recently

The session highlights Taylor where he shines best, simplifying and letting the song flow. The gentle, but confident picking he lays out under his voice makes me feel like I am listening to something timeless. His songs could have been out of the 60s or 70s or present day.

With two covers mixed into his original set on air on WMFO, folks are in for a treat. His take on John Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery” sounds like it could have come right off of one of his own records. I have heard that song covered and covered again, and Nate really makes it his own, singing high on the second verse, picking ever so intricately. Really dynamic.

So as we bid adieu to one great local writer to make room for September’s EBASS writer of the month I suggest you give out pal Nate Taylor a listen. Have at it…
