Green River Fest: Not Just For Music (Food Vendors)

One thing I have come to really notice over the years of attending festivals from the colossal Bonnaroo to the quaint Roots on the River and everything in between is that as the years wane on the presence of colorful trucks, with smoke and delicious wavering scents emanating from their insides, seem to be owning more and more real estate at these events. Tucked into nooks and crannies on the sides of stages, offering a whole “food truck row” of choices along the edges of the sea of blankets and chairs lining the fronts of stages – and even off the beaten paths where you wouldn’t expect. Food trucks have become synonymous with music festivals and Green River this weekend is no different.

I mean, sure, we are attending because we LOVE music here at RLR and GRF does a fantastic job of curating a line up of acts ranging from up and comers to seasoned veterans. You are guaranteed to see one of your old favorites alongside a newly discovered band crush here and this year’s line-up fully embraces that fact…but I digress, we are here to talk about the food.

So, here are a few of the vendors we think you should be hitting up when your tummy begins to grumble or you need to quench your thirst with something tasty (or caffeinated) as you rock out the tunes this weekend.

Fancheezical has become a staple for me at festivals and I am absolutely goo-ing with anticipation to scarf down another old skool (or 5) from these folks. Probably some of the friendliest foodies I have come across at any fest (my last grilled cheese came with a big ol’ smooch on the cheek), everything about this truck is well worth the wait. If you happen upon the bright yellow truck: STOP, and get yourself a classic.

If you happen to be camping out chances are you aren’t getting a heck of a great night sleep and need your morning (or early afternoon) Joe to keep you covered. Luckily Dean’s Beans has got your back. They’re are also fair trade and organic so you can feel good about feeling good and lively when you drink a cup. Oh yeah, given that it is mid-July the folks at Dean’s offer up high octane Nitro Cold Brew coffee as well as their specialty Deannoccino, the fantastical frozen coffee beverage with hot chocolate and milk. So you can get amped up, but keep cool, when you re-caffeine, you dancing machine.

Speaking of keeping cool, what better way to do so than with a frozen treat…like say some small batch, locally sourced and seasonal flavored ice cream or sorbet from Bart’s Homemade Ice cream and sorbet? Mud pie yogurt…I don’t need to say anymore than that.

What’s that smell? You know it. Its as American as apple pie…its BBQ and its tantalizing smells are dancing outward and up into your nostrils from Road Hawg BBQ Swine Dining. Big portions or ribs, pulled pork and more. My mouth is already watering.

For those of you looking for something a bit more animal friendly, Beet Box is on Food Truck lane and is an eco-friendly truck specializing in gourmet plant-based comfort foods and keenly focused on staying local and organic. Vegan burgers and sliders, tempeh reubens, TBLTs, Elephant Juice, and raw desserts…mmmmmmmm.

We could go on and on and all of the vendors keeping your tummy happy and your body hydrated at the festival are worth supporting and check out. Let your nose be your guide and check out all of the vendors slinging their delicious goods at Green River Festival RIGHT HERE before you hit the lawn and get moving and shaking.
