Fresh Track: Samantha Farrell “Butterfly in 503” Music Features by Brian Carroll - April 22, 2019April 22, 20190 I didn’t want to write you But not for the reasons that you think I think I’ve had too much to drink again But it’s better than what’s inside my head The opening of Samantha Farrell‘s new track is a juxtaposition of emotion and delivery. The words cutting deep. The feeling behind them, piercing. But the elegance and beauty of her voice singing them in a way that eases the pain of the story to come. Farrell has a way with delivering her songs that has this sense of power. A voice that sounds, at times, innocent and smoothly crosses your ear drums. Like cool water for your parched soul. There is a distinct likability to the tone and nature of her voice, but what she commands in her words may be even stronger and the combination of the two, well that just makes for some really robust and impactful song and performance. It is that mix of pop sensibility with jazz and R&B heart and vibe. The complexity of her voice, while so incredibly digestible, shouldn’t be understated or taken for granted. A warm note holding out at one moment and tingling warble the next. Dancing over reverberating guitar and synth. It’s beautiful.
