From Art Comes More Art: GennaRose Nethercott and Modern Ballads Album

An idea that we all too on board with stemming from a grant that comes from a place we are all too fond of (and have benefitted from ourselves!) comes Modern Ballads, a collaborative recording project being produced by Somerville poet GennaRose Nethercott

We live in an age where seemingly everyone has a Kickstarter for their records. Which, in many ways is a beautiful thing. It helps artists to complete projects, allow fans to be a part of the process and actually consider how many records to order based on a pre-sale interest. In other ways it can be tough to ask yourself where your money will be most well spent. Well, I assure you that GennaRose’s project is an endeavor worth your investment.

Plucking from the deep talent pool around Somerville and Cambridge Nethercott has tapped some of our favorite acts to be a part of this community driven recording project (including 2 from our very own community driven recording project, Locals Covering Locals: Lula Wiles and Dietrich Strause). The idea is simple enough: to record an album of original ballads, each song which is performed and co-written by a different acclaimed folk band or artist from around the Boston area. The full line up includes Peter Mulvey, Lonely Heartstring Band, Lula Wiles, Jefferson Hamer, Dietrich Strause, Rose Polenzani, Lissa Schneckenburger, Corey DiMario, and Arc Iris. Thats…just an insane line up of talent.

There are only a few days left to give to this great project and they are really narrowing in on the goal of $8,000. Which, may seem like a lot of dough, but recording this many artists in studio is a time and monetary consuming endeavor.

Check out the Kickstarter video and head over to THIS LINK to give today. You won’t regret it.
