Singled Out: Small Town Therapy “Only Shallow”

Vibe and drive. There is an ethereal brush that the violin lines paint across Small Town Therapy’s “Only Shallow”. The guitar lines ringing heavier in the mix. That push, that forceful drive and build. The feeling of anticipation within the song is palpable. It makes you feel things. Anxious, excited, vigilant of the next line to come. There are stray lines with Celtic feelings here and there, but it feels much more. There is soul in the weaving violin trails. Its…just listen yourself and be moved.

Who:  Small Town Therapy

From: Bay Area, CA

Song: “Only Shallow”

Latest Record: Dreams And Circumstances, out May 17

What About It: “The album Loveless by My Bloody Valentine is a masterpiece of melody and soundscape. This tune is one of our favorites. It is also one of John Mailander’s favorites so it seemed like an obvious choice when we were brainstorming songs to collaborate on. We arranged it around a kitchen table, with Adam’s reharmonization of the guitar and basslines providing a steady backdrop for fiddle noises. —Leif Karlstrom, violinist.
