Show You Should Know : Jake Eddy at Zenbarn (1/23 Waterbury, VT)
Social media guitar superstar? Jake Eddy has put bluegrass flatpickin’ (and really, many styles of acoustic guitar music) in front of many music lovers outside of the normal footprint and in the feeds of so many folks, but seeing this fella live and in person is where its truly at.
Jake will be on a whirlwind Northeast tour starting tomorrow (that’s January 15th) in Pennsylvania and working his way up through New England to our fine corner of the world in VT on 1/23 at the fabulous Zenbarn in Waterbury, Vermont.
I got to spend some time with Jake last summer around Grey Fox when he was playing as part of Noam Pikelny & friends and was blown away by his musicianship. Jake also put out a fantastic record last April called Heirloom and if you need any more reason to go check him out on this tour, give a listen to his instrumental take on the Shania Twain banger “Still the One”.
Get out there and see him.
More about Jake: Jake Eddy is the leading torchbearer of solo bluegrass flatpicking and was called “one of the most exciting young guitarists” by Fretboard Journal. In 2023 he was invited to perform at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, performed 3 times on the Grand Ole Opry, and was nominated for IBMA Momentum Instrumentalist of the Year. His style is influenced heavily by the syncopated playing of Clarence White and he sites influences from Doc Watson and McCoy Tyner to Jimmy Bryant and Roy Clark. Bluegrass Unlimited says Jake’s recent album is “proof we live in the golden age of flatpicking” and when you hear him, you will have no choice but to agree.
