Throwback Video : Mipso “All Behind Me Now” at GMBR 2019
Mipso has just ended their Farewell for Now tour and my social media feed has been full of re-shares of recent performances and heartfelt memories about (and from) the band. I first met them as a result of the wonderful John and Jill Turpin and the Green Mountain Bluegrass & Roots fest. The band played the inaugural fest (memories of them playing mud football in the spitting rain as thunderstorms loomed in the distance and shut down the main stage are still with me) and in 2019 I got the opportunity to peel them away from backstage between performances and record this take of their tune “All Behind Me Now”. The quick glances, the sly smiles that darted back and forth, the jokes in between takes. I’m always grateful for moments spent with artists in front my lens, but this was something more. Something special and humbling.
I feel like this is one of those cases of you don’t know how good something is until its gone. I’ve been a fan of the band since those days, but in now re-visting their catalogue its taking on a whole new realm of emotion and feeling for me. They are the type of band that is easy to universally love. A rare breed that only comes around every so often. We shall miss these beautiful souls, but are excited to see what they get up to next.
P.S. Big thanks to Doug Hacker of Billsville House Concerts for recently posting a behind the scenes video on the BHC social page to prompt me to go back down this rabbit hole.
